"Asian Brown Cloud" is to blame for recent climate disaster in Asia, according to the research by NASA and Columbia University (Oct. 4, 2002)

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Columbia University research team said in the study there was a clear link between black carbon and climate change occurred in the south Asia Region.

The research team conducted four computer simulations using scientific data from 46 ground stations in China, and found anthropogenic black carbon affected the climate by absorbing sunlight, which then heated the air and made the atmosphere more unstable. This brought heavy rainfall in southern China and drought in northern China.

EPA announced Homeland Security Strategic Plan for environmental protection, prompt response and recovery in terrorist incidents (Oct. 2, 2002)

EPA's Strategic Plan identifies goals in four mission-critical areas in terrorist incidents in order to protect public health and safeguard the environment. The four areas include Critical Infrastructure Protection Goals, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery Goals, Communication and Information Goals, and Protection of EPA Personnel and Infrastructure Goals.

WRI Launches Project to Support China's Environmental Enterprises (Oct. 9, 2002)

The World Resource Institute (WRI) will launch New Venture China to accelerate investments in the country's sustainable business enterprises, especially in organic agriculture, renewable energy, and clean technology. WRI started New Ventures Project in Latin America in 1999 and transferred 4.4 million US dollars.
