A bilateral meeting between South Korea and Indonesia was held

▷ South Korea and Indonesia signed the Green Transition Initiative as a joint effort to build eco-friendly water supply infrastructure

Sejong, November 28 - On November 14, South Korean Environment Minister Han Wha-jin met with the Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono. The two sides signed the Green Transition Initiative (GTI), a multilateral cooperative platform led by South Korea and Indonesia. Minister Basuki suggested building a joint platform for carbon neutrality when he visited South Korea for the Korea-Indonesia summit. After finalizing the details, the two countries signed the GTI during the G20 and B20 Summit Indonesia 2022.

Both countries agreed to package big development cooperation projects related to "green infrastructure" for responding to climate change, such as resource and waste management, renewable energy, and green cities, and make them GTI brand projects progressively. In addition, the two countries will work together to make the existing cooperation projects successful. Those projects include a pilot project for supplying electric vehicles (EVs) and building charging stations for EVs. Another project is to construct a carbon-neutral water supply system in Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia. The two nations will also pursue these initiatives as the leading projects

of GTI. The Indonesian government has its roadmap for increasing the ratio of EV sales among all vehicle sales to 30% by 2035. For its part, South Korea has plans to systematically support the nurturing of an EV ecosystem in Indonesia through the green official development assistance (ODA) program. South Korea will continue to discover and expand new cooperation projects associated with the water management policies of Indonesia.

The Ministry of Environment's goal is to develop GTI into an exemplary platform for accelerating climate action by international communities. At the same time, the ministry will help Korean companies enter emerging markets, like Indonesia, through the GTI platform.

Han Wha-jin, Minister of Environment, said, "Launching GTI led by the two countries is a follow-up action of the Korean government's pledge. During the UN General Assembly, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol addressed in his keynote speech that the Korean government would expand the green ODA and support innovative green technologies to tackle climate change." She added, "The Ministry of Environment will broaden and deepen cooperation between South Korea and Indonesia by encouraging investment from the public and private sectors for climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas reduction in the Asia Pacific region and expanding projects for climate change response."
