Ministry of Environment and Incheon City Lead the Hydrogen Bus Conversion Policy

▷ Meeting held with bus operators to gather opinions on hydrogen bus conversion


On the afternoon of March 29, the Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) and Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeongbok) will listen to the opinions of local bus operators at the main conference room of the Incheon Metropolitan Council (located in Namdong-gu, Incheon) to establish plans for the implementation of the hydrogen bus conversion initiative.


Incheon Metropolitan City aims to supply the largest quantity among metropolitan local governments, with a target of 505 hydrogen buses (approximately 29.4%) out of the Ministry’s goal of 1,720 buses for this year. Incheon City is actively engaged in various efforts as a leading city in the hydrogen bus ecosystem, including actively promoting the construction of liquefied hydrogen plants and hydrogen refueling stations.

During this meeting, Incheon Metropolitan City will share its plans for hydrogen bus distribution and the current status of hydrogen bus charging infrastructure. Additionally, the opinions of transportation companies will be heard regarding matters necessary for stable hydrogen bus operations, and discussions will be held to explore collaboration opportunities.

Park Deok-su, Vice Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, who will attend the meeting, plans to state, “Through stable operation of environmentally friendly hydrogen buses and the establishment of infrastructure, we will do our best to ensure that citizens can comfortably utilize them.”


Lee Chang-heum, Deputy Minister of the Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office, will state that “Incheon Metropolitan City is taking the lead in the hydrogen bus conversion policy.” He will further emphasize, “Close cooperation among hydrogen bus manufacturers, hydrogen refueling station construction companies, and hydrogen bus operators is important for the smooth implementation of the policy. This collaboration is crucial to support hydrogen bus maintenance and charging facilities.”
