Minister Han Wha-jin Participates as One-Day Teacher at Neulbom School

▷ Minister of Environment visits Daejeon Jangdae Elementary School to conduct environmental experience activities for first graders

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) announced that on April 4, Minister Han Wha-jin will participate as a one-day teacher at Daejeon Jangdae Elementary School (located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon) and conduct an environmental experience with first-grade students using a hydrogen commercial truck modified through the ‘Pureumi Mobile Environmental Classroom (an eco-friendly educational vehicle)’.

Neulbom School is a national education service that provides various after-school educational and care programs to promote the growth and development of elementary school students by integrating various educational resources from schools and local communities.

The Ministry is supporting various environmental education resources to be actively utilized at Neulbom School. It provides various children’s environmental education programs owned by the Ministry, including the ‘Pureumi Mobile Environmental Classroom’ where eco-friendly practices are learned and the biology resource experience classroom where the importance of biodiversity is taught. Starting from the second semester of this year, the Ministry plans to develop a tailored environmental specialization education program* for Neulbom School and support its utilization in frontline schools.

* A 12-session (24-hour) integrated and linked educational curriculum covering various environmental topics, taking into account the educational goals, achievement standards, preferences, etc., of first-grade elementary school students.

Minister Han, participating as a one-day teacher at Neulbom School on this day, plans to explain eco-friendly living practices that first-grade elementary school students can implement in an easy-to-understand manner, tailored to the children’s level of understanding.

First, utilizing the ‘Pureumi Mobile Environmental Classroom,’ students will learn various modes of transportation (such as cars and buses) and its features in our surroundings that use eco-friendly energy represented by hydrogen and fossil fuels (petroleum). Following this, they will engage in discussions about weather and spring flowers, reflecting on the impact of climate change on living organisms. Additionally, they will have a quiz session on eco-friendly practices in daily life, such as waste separation and disposal.

The ‘Pureumi Mobile Environmental Classroom,’ for this day’s Neulbom School class, is a mobile educational vehicle equipped with various environmental education materials. It can directly visit elementary, middle, and high schools as well as institutions to conduct environmental education. Since its debut in 2004, it has been operating in the field of education for 20 years. Particularly, the mobile educational vehicle for this day’s class is the first domestically produced hydrogen commercial truck that emits zero air pollutants. It will be operated in collaboration with Kyobo Life Insurance starting from April 4.

Minister Han Wha-jin stated, “We will develop play-based and experiential environmental education tailored for Neulbom School, allowing children to naturally develop an interest in the environment.” She added, “To ensure the successful establishment of Neulbom School, we will continue to collaborate actively with the Ministry of Education.”
