Attending the opening ceremony on this day are around 30 people, including Park Gyeong-sik, the South Korean Ambassador to Ghana; Choi Heung Jin, President of KEITI; Patrick Nomo, Director at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation of the Ghanaian government; Noah Tumfo, Director at the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, as well as local public officials and corporate representatives.

The Ghana Office provides information on Ghana’s environmental policies and market trends to Korean companies interested in entering the market, as well as supporting intergovernmental negotiations. Additionally, it serves as a hub office for expanding into African market by exploring various cooperative projects, including Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Ghana is among the politically stable countries in Africa with abundant mineral resources, thus possessing significant growth potential. The country is committed to sustainable development, including initiatives such as energy conversion from waste, expanding renewable energy, and recycling plastic waste.

Furthermore, as one of the priority partner countries for ODA, Korean government announced plans to double support for Africa by 2030 (44th International Development Cooperation Committee, February 9, 2023). Therefore, it is expected that cooperation between South Korea and Ghana in the fields of climate and environment will increase.

The KEITI has supported various environmental cooperation projects in Ghana, including feasibility studies for the construction of water supply facilities in the western region (2010), installation of village water purification facilities in Jeffisi Township (2011), and the establishment of a smart water management system for the Accra water supply (2023).

This year, the KEITI plans to pursue policy, regulatory, and technological analysis research in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment to improve water supply and sewage infrastructure. Additionally, it will explore cooperative projects with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to address current issues, such as conducting pre-feasibility studies for textile waste reuse and recycling facilities.

President Choi Heung Jin stated, “Taking advantage of Ghana’s abundant mineral resources and stable political environment, we will establish Ghana as a hub for the African environmental market and actively promote cooperation in environmental matters among African countries, as well as support their entry into the climate and environmental market.”
