- WHO and EU published 'Children's health and environment: a review of evidence' on April 15, 2002. It reports that "more than 15,000 synthetic chemicals, polluted indoor and outdoor air, road traffic, contaminated food and water, unsafe buildings, contaminants in toys, radiation and environmental tabacco smoke" are associated with asthma, neurodevelopmental disorders, cancer and food-and waterborne diseases.

- The scientists advocate the value of lumbers produced from forests would be estimated about $ 4 billion US. In contrast, protected forest preserves recreation values, fisheries, habitats for native species, and clean water of which estimated economic value is about $ 224 billion US.
