(Reference) The Budgets and Funds of the Ministry of the Environment for 2020 Finalized at 9 Trillion 539.4 Billion Won

▷ The 2020 budgets have been increased by 23.7% (1 trillion 644.4 billion won) in comparison to 2019 (6 trillion 925.5 billion won) 

▷ The River Management Fund and Asbestos Injury Relief Fund have been increased by 4.9% (45.3 billion won) in comparison to 2019 (924.2 billion won)


The Ministry of Environment (Minister Cho Myung-rae) announced that the plan for budgets and funds operation in 2020 was finalized at a plenary session of the National Assembly on December 10th.


The budgets and funds of the Ministry in 2020 will be 9 trillion 539.4 billion won, a 21.5 percent (1 trillion 689.7 billion won) increase from those of 2019 (7 trillion 849.7 billion won). 


The Ministry's financial capacity for 2020 focuses on the projects to ensure the environmental rights of the people, including clean air and water. Also, the Ministry has allocated the budgets to solve issues requiring a swift resolution, including a stable processing of illegal and hazardous waste, and ensuring safety in dealing with chemical substances.


From the originally submitted plan, the budgets and funds of the Ministry have been increased during the review process at the National Assembly by 183.2 billion won.


Furthermore, 17 billion won was reduced from the original plan for projects, including the Future Environmental Industry Fund, business ideas commercialization project for environmental SMEs, and the non-point source pollution reduction project.


200.2 billion won was added to the original plan to strengthen the projects, including the electronic vehicle dissemination project, Africa Swine Fever response project, and measures for sewage pipes management and underground subway stations' air quality improvement.
