Public and Private Sectors Join Forces to Explore Ways to Revitalize the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Market

▷ 4th Climate Strategy Discussion with carbon market experts


The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) announced that it will hold the 4th Climate Strategy Discussion on April 21 at COEX Magok (located in Gangseo-gu, Seoul) to focus on restoring the price function of the greenhouse gas emissions trading market and revitalizing transactions.


The Climate Strategy Discussion, chaired by Minister Kim Wansup of the Ministry of Environment, brings together climate-related experts from various fields to discuss the direction of national climate policy development. The 4th discussion, following the first on climate pricing, second on climate finance, and third on climate insurance, will focus on the carbon market (greenhouse gas emissions trading system).


At the meeting, Professor Yoo Seung-jik of Sookmyung Women’s University will first present on the topic of Trends and Implications of Emissions Trading Systems at Home and Abroad. Senior Researcher Lee Hyo-seop of the Korea Capital Market Institute will introduce “Directions for the Introduction of Financial Products to Revitalize the Emissions Trading Market.” Following this, all attendees will discuss the development direction of South Korea’s greenhouse gas emissions trading system and the introduction of financial products.


Minister Kim Wansup of the Ministry of Environment stated, “The emissions trading system is the most important tool for achieving the nationally determined contribution.” He added, “We will work to build an advanced carbon market system by collecting various opinions from market participants.”
