Local Water Industry Diagnosis Team Dispatched to Indonesia

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) announced that it will dispatch a local  diagnosis team in the water industry field to Indonesia from October 16 to 20.

The local diagnosis team in the water industry field is composed of experts from academia, specialized institutions, and businesses in the relevant field. This team was formed with the aim of diagnosing the environmental management situation in the host country to address environmental challenges and to identify local environmental policy improvement measures and green industry collaboration projects.

The first partner country of the local diagnosis team, Indonesia, has sufficient rainfall but faces challenges in policy support and green infrastructure in areas such as water resource management and water supply systems, making it difficult to ensure a safe water supply.

This local diagnosis team, through in-depth policy analysis and on-site inspections, will propose safe water management policies and collaborative projects based on South Korean environmental policies to policy officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works (water resources and sanitation) and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (watershed management).

Furthermore, in the process of transferring South Korean environmental policies to Indonesia, it is expected that not only will the barriers for South Korean water industry entering Indonesia be lowered, but also the burden on domestic companies facing challenges in expanding their overseas operations will significantly decrease.

The Ministry of Environment, through the advice of overseas project experts and experienced individuals from multilateral development banks, conducted surveys on environmental challenges and government cooperation demand from June to August through the embassies of 21 partner countries with whom the Ministry had signed environmental cooperation MOUs. So far, the Ministry has received requests for cooperation on 20 environmental challenges from 10 countries*.

The Ministry of Environment plans to dispatch a local diagnosis team in the field of circular economy industries to Colombia at the end of November this year. Starting next year, based on the results of demand surveys for environmental challenges, the Ministry will send tailored a local diagnosis team for carbon reduction, circular economy, and water industry in three specific sectors to diversify the target countries for green industry overseas expansion.

Minister Han Wha-jin stated, "Green industries emerge in accordance with environmental policies. Through the export of South Korean environmental policies, we will contribute to solving global environmental challenges and promote overseas expansion of green industries."
