National Institute of Environmental Research Shares Advanced Integrated Environmental Management Technology with Vietnam

The National Institute of Environmental Research (President Keum Han-seung) under the Ministry of Environment, has announced that it will participate in the “Best Available Techniques/Technology Workshop” requested by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretariat. This workshop will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 5th for two days, where the Ministry of Environment will share advanced integrated environmental management technologies from South Korea.



The "Best Available Techniques/Technology Workshop" in Vietnam is part of the OECD's Best Available Techniques Cooperation Programme. It has been organized to provide non-member countries with information and guidelines on best available techniques, as well as share experiences from member countries.



This event will involve experts from member countries of the OECD, including South Korea, Germany, and the United Kingdom, as well as officials from the Vietnamese Ministry of Environment and local agencies such as the Environmental Science Institute and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. 



The purpose of this event is to introduce advanced cases and provide education for the adoption of best available techniques/technology in Vietnam. It will include meetings of the OECD Secretariat and experts from Germany, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, as well as educational sessions on the preparation of technical s for integrated permission and discussions on best available techniques. 



On October 3rd, a preliminary event (technical meeting) will take place, during which discussions on the development of technology guidelines for implementing best available techniques in Vietnam and inter-country best available techniques will be held. On October 4th, there will be on-site visits to pulp and paper as well as steel production facilities. The main event will then take place from October 5th for two days.



During the preliminary event, there will be an introduction to the process and methods of establishing best available techniques in South Korea. On the first day of the main event, topics covered will include Best Available Techniques-Associated Emission Levels (BAT-AEL), as well as guidelines for best available techniques in pulp and paper production. On the second day, there will be an introduction to best available techniques standards for the steel industry.



Keum Han-seung, the President of the National Institute of Environmental Research, stated, “South Korea's integrated environmental management system has already reached an advanced level comparable to that of developed countries.” He also expressed his hope that this event would serve as an opportunity for South Korea's integrated environmental management system to enhance its role and status on the international stage.
