Korea, Japan, and China Join Hands for a Cleaner Northeast Asia

The National Institute of Environmental Research (President Geum Hanseung), under the Ministry of Environment, announced that it will participate in the "20th Korea-Japan-China Environmental Science Presidents' Meeting" held from October 31 to November 1 at KKR Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, to improve environmental quality in Northeast Asia.



The Korea-Japan-China Environmental Science Presidents' Meeting has been held annually since 2004 as an international conference aimed at scientifically addressing environmental issues in the Northeast Asian region. It focuses on discussing collaborative research initiatives among the three countries in various environmental fields, including climate, atmosphere, water, health, and more.



The 20th meeting, after three consecutive virtual meetings held from 2020 to 2022, will be conducted in person, marking the first face-to-face meeting in four years. Approximately 40 participants, including Geum Hanseung, President of the National Institute of Environmental Research, Kimoto Masahide, President of the Japan National Institute for Environmental Studies, and Li Haisheng, President of the China Environmental Science Research Institute, are expected to attend.



During this meeting, the theme will revolve around the "Exposure Coefficients for Human Health Assessment in the East Asian Region." The participating countries will share their research achievements in this regard and engage in in-depth discussions to review the progress of collaborative research in key areas such as water environment, atmosphere, environmental health, and climate change.



Geum Hanseung, Director of the National Institute of Environmental Research, stated, "This Environmental Science Presidents' Meeting will be an opportunity to review the research collaboration achievements between the three countries over the past 20 years." He added, "We will continue to work closely among the three countries to create a foundation for a clean future environment in Northeast Asia."
