▷ Companies that joined the RE100 initiative requested the Korean government to supply renewable energy more stably

Sejong, November 7 - The Ministry of Environment (ME, Minister Han, Wha-jin) held a meeting with the companies that joined the RE1001 initiative on October 31, 2022, at the Korea Press Center to discuss securing a stable renewable energy supply. At the meeting, Environment Minister Han Wha-jin met with Vice President of Samsung Electronics Kim Su-jin, Vice President of Hyundai Motors Kim Dong-wook, Vice President of Korea Zinc Kim Gi-ju, Vice President of SK Hynix Kim Hyung-su, Managing Director of Lotte Chilsung Beverage Jang Hak-yeong, Executive Director of Naver Lim Dong-a, General Manager of KT Kim Moo-sung, and Safety Environment Officer of LG Innotek Park Yeong-su to discuss measures to secure a stable renewable energy supply for these participating companies.

Attendees emphasized that an international clientele demands domestic companies to use 100% renewable energy; therefore, securing a stable renewable energy supply is one of the most urgent tasks. They expressed concerns that the renewable energy market will become unstable in the event of a shortage of renewable energy supply, leading to a decrease in business predictability. The companies also hoped to supply renewable energy sufficiently through relevant policy measures and deregulation.

Minister Han expressed her gratitude to the companies for their active engagement in RE100 for achieving carbon neutrality. Then, she said that the government would expand the renewable energy supply base to achieve the country's NDC target by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

The Ministry of Environment will cooperate with concerned authorities, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, to put in place a range of measures for a stable supply of renewable energy, such as deregulation to simplify licensing and improvement of restrictions and barriers to renewable energy.

Environment Minister Han Wha-jin said, "We welcome all companies to join the RE100 initiative for their environmentally friendly management. The Ministry of Environment will try to ensure a stable supply of renewable energy so that the industries do not suffer from any complications from a renewable energy shortage."
