The Environmental Management Corporation (EMC) revealed on January 21, 2003, that it has been chosen as an internationally accredited testing and inspection agency for dioxin assessment on Dec. 30, 2002, after undergoing a rigid analysis for the inspection capacity and quality management and insurance by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS).

International recognition of accredited test and inspection is a system where KOLAS, which is a signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), provides accreditation service as an internationally accredited testing and inspection analysis. It operates in accordance with the requirements of International Organization for Standardization(ISO) and the International Electro-technical Commission(IEC) Guide 17025, for the management of the organization, technical skills for the inspection analysis as well as a quality management and insurance.

Accordingly, for up to five years, the EMC has secured a public confidence on all areas of the dioxin assessment.

Up to now, there has been many problems with the public trust for dioxin assessment since private industries as well as public institutions tended to rely on the foreign assessment facilities for inspection and testing. However, now that the EMC has secured an international accreditation as a testing and inspection agency, it will contribute to restoring public trust in the fields of dioxin assessment and detecting and analysing even the micro elements of environmental pollutants.
