South Korean Environment Minister Han Wha-jin Attended the G20 Joint Environment and Climate Ministers' Meeting

▷ The G20 Joint Environment and Climate Ministers' Meeting was held on August 31 in Indonesia to discuss environmental protection measures and response to climate change


Sejong, August 31 ? Environment Minister Han Wha-jin attended the G20 Joint Environment and Climate Ministers' Meeting held on August 31 in Bali, Indonesia, as the head of the Korean delegation. Minister Han discussed G20's collaboration for environmental protection and responding to climate change. She held bilateral meetings to discuss strengthening partnerships in the field of environment. 


The meeting was attended by ministers and officials from the Group of 20 leading nations, including South Korea, the US, the EU, and Japan, officials from invited countries by the host country, and international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Environment and climate officials jointly attended this year's meeting. It shows the strong will of the international community to tackle climate change.

 

The agenda of the meeting is as follows. 


(1) More sustainable recovery from COVID-19; (2) Enhancing land and sea-based actions for environmental protection and climate objectives; and (3) financing environmental protection and climate change objectives. 


In her speech, Minister Han promoted South Korea's successful carbon neutrality and circular economy policies and expressed the country's will to cooperate in resolving the primary global environmental issues at hand. In particular, the minister shared with the international community South Korea's policies, such as implementing policies for the Korean circular economy, establishing K-taxonomy for sustainable financing, implementing the Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth, and establishing the Climate Response Fund.


Minister Han met with the Heads of Delegation from the EU, Germany, and other participating countries to discuss cooperation in the fields of environment and climate as well as a plan for the success of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will take place in November.
