The 4th national meeting of Local Agenda 21 is held in Daegu from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25 under the theme of "saving the earth by taking a local action". The main purpose of this meeting is to keep the sustainable and sound environment in our region, even after the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD).

This meeting is sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Daegu Metropolitan Council, and up to 400 people will participate, including Myung Ja Kim, the Minister of Environment, Hae-nyoung Cho, the Mayor of Daegu, and other public officials in charge of the Local Agenda 21.

The Local Agenda 21 was established 4 years ago, for sustainable development in regional units where local citizens, companies and local NGOs can voluntarily participate to examine about social and environmental problems and search for ways for the future development.

During the meeting, the participants will give seminars on the subject of "WSSD and Local Agenda 21" and discuss ways for sustainable development of the regions after the WSSD. Also, there will be award ceremonies and presentations of the outstanding projects.

On the last day of the meeting, whole session will wrap up and participants will adopt a "Daegu Statement" for the better operation of the Local Agenda 21 in the future.
