The Ministry of Environment Plans to hold 2023 UNFCCC Adaptation Week

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) will co-host the "2023 UNFCCC Adaptation Week" with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from August 28 to September 1 in Songdo, Incheon.


The UNFCCC Adaptation Week has been organized to share climate adaptation strategies and implementation experiences from around the world as the global climate crisis intensifies* and the importance of climate adaptation grows. This event aims to advance international discussions on climate adaptation, particularly progressing discussions on adapting to climate change, under the theme "A New Era for Adaptation: Scaling Up and Transformation in Adaptation." 


*In the United States' Death Valley recorded a temperature of 54 degrees Celsius on July 16, and in India, more than 100 people have died due to continuous heavy rainfall for over a month.


Specific events include the International Forum on National Adaptation Plans (NAP) organized by the UNFCCC and the Adaptation Vision Workshop, as well as the APAN (Asia Pacific Adaptation Network) Forum organized by the United Nations Environment Programme. High-level dialogues will involve Majid Al Suwaidi, the Secretary-General of the 28th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP28) scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates in November 2023, along with ministerial-level representatives and officials from various countries, discussing international collaboration for expanding and transforming adaptation efforts.


The Ministry plans to share the outcomes of the discussions during this Adaptation Week at the 28th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP28) scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates in November 2023, to contribute to the progress of international climate adaptation discussions.
