The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) will hold a policy meeting on March 19 in the morning at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas (located in Gangnam, Seoul) with representatives of member companies from the Korea Business Council for Sustainable Development (Chairman Lee Kyong-ho).
At this meeting, the Ministry of Environment will introduce key support policies such as 1) promoting market creation, 2) regulatory innovation, 3) market support, and 4) strengthening communication systems, in order to turn carbon neutrality into a development opportunity for the industry, and will listen to the opinions of the companies regarding these policies.
Representatives of the member companies also plan to convey various opinions and voices from the field regarding the government’s support and institutional improvements needed for carbon neutrality and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management.
In particular, discussions will be focused on areas of high interest to companies, such as 1) the emissions trading system and greenhouse gas reduction accreditation system, 2) realization of waste resource recycling, and 3) rationalization of overlapping environmental regulations.
The Ministry of Environment plans to comprehensively reflect the suggestions and requests made during the meeting in this year’s environmental policies, including the preparation of the ‘2035 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC),’ to establish policies that can be felt on the ground.
Minister of Environment Kim Wansup stated, “At a time when environmental values such as carbon neutrality and the circular economy are leading changes in the economy and society, communication between the government and the industry is more important than ever.” He also remarked, “The Ministry of Environment will continue to expand policy and financial support to be a strong partner of the industry and to achieve growth in the green sector together.”
