Partnership for the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF)

Fourth Meeting of Partners is Held

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, the Partnership for the East Asian- Australasian Flyway (EAAF) Fourth Meeting of Partners was held in Incheon from February 23 to 24.

With the participation by 68 from 12 governments including the U.S., Japan, Australia, and Russia, international organizations, and NGOs, diverse plans for protecting migratory birds' habitat in Asia Pacific areas were suggested through in-depth discussion on each issue.

Main issues covered at the discussion were expanding the network of flyway websites, improving education and public awareness on flyways, and researching and monitoring flyways. As more concrete plans for 2010, the following activities were presented: enhancing access to the network by using standard programs and more accessible materials such as maps and translated documents on flyways, publicizing EAAF website through portal websites, and building inter-governmental cooperation system for endangered species protection program.

The meeting, which was held first since the establishment of a secretariat in December 2008, provided the opportunity to review the partnership of the past and to make diverse plans for 2010. The next EAAF meeting is planned to be held in Cambodia at the end of 2011.
