▷ Ministry of Environment launches ‘Household Waste Separation Website’ on Resource Circulation Day (September 6)
▷ Information provided on 730 items, including how and where to dispose of them in the neighborhood
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Sungwhan) announced that on September 5, it will launch the Household Waste Separation and Disposal Website (분리배출.kr) to mark the 17th Resource Circulation Day (September 6 every year).
This website easily explains the separation and disposal methods for 730 types of household waste* that are mainly generated in daily life and provides guidance on the entire process of collection and processing of recyclables after separation and disposal.
* Colorless PET bottles, tumblers, mesh-patterned Styrofoam containers, paper cup ramen, milk cartons, onion nets, cold medicine, etc.
In particular, to reduce confusion caused by different separation and disposal methods in each region, it provides integrated information based on the searcher’s location, including the disposal methods and various disposal sites* in their neighborhood (city, county, or district).
* Recycling collection points, clothing collection bins, battery collection bins, fluorescent light collection bins, medicine collection bins, unmanned collection machines, etc.
By searching an item, for example, a portable battery, it will be guided to “dispose of it in a battery collection bin,” and the location of the nearest battery collection bin will be presented on a map.
In addition, this website allows users to easily find out about separation and disposal methods they have been curious about through a Q&A on waste separation and disposal.
The Household Waste Separation and Disposal Website can be accessed by directly entering the address (wasteguide.or.kr) in the internet address bar or by searching for Household Waste Separation and Disposal Website in an internet search engine.
The Ministry developed the website as a responsive web that automatically adjusts the screen size on various devices (computers, smartphones, laptops, etc.) for user convenience, and incorporated web accessibility technologies so that visually impaired users can easily use it, allowing sound to be heard when the mouse or hand hovers over text.
The Ministry plans to continuously enhance the Household Waste Separation and Disposal Website by supplementing disposal methods by city, county, district, and item. In particular, it will continuously add information requested by the public, such as searchable items and disposal sites, and improve convenience through ongoing functional enhancements*.
* Providing artificial intelligence-based object recognition services, developing a mobile app, adding voice search functionality, etc.
Kim Go-eung, Director General of Resources Circulation Bureau at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “We developed a dedicated website to provide separation and disposal information easily and in detail, in line with improving public awareness of waste separation.” He added, “We will continue to provide useful information to ensure proper waste separation in the future.”
