▷Ministry of Environment and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute to Host ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management Conference’

▷Discussion on Latest Trends, Including the European Union Supply Chain Due Diligence Law, and Response Measures for Major Export Industries

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (President Choi Heung Jin) will hold a ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management Conference’ on the afternoon of November 14 at the Korea Science and Technology Center (located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul).

This event will expand upon the Ministry’s presentation of excellent cases of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) diagnosis and consulting, sharing the latest international trends in ESG, including the European Union (EU) supply chain due diligence law. Additionally, it will introduce excellent supply chain management cases from domestic and international companies and discusses the industry’s response directions.

At this event, attended by over 200 participants, including professionals from the export industry, the proceedings will commence with a welcoming speech from Lee Chang-heum, Director-General of the Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, and an opening address by Choi Heung Jin, the President of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute. The event will also feature keynote speeches from Jorg Weberndorfer, the Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Korea, and Norbert Baum, Vice President of the German chemical company HELM.

In Session 1, Attorney Kim Sang-min from Lee&Ko Law Firm will present on the ‘Trends and Response Directions of Supply Chain Due Diligence Guidelines,’ while Nam Gung-gyeong, Group Leader at the German petrochemical company BASF, will discuss ‘Practical Methods for a Company’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Preparation.’

In Session 2, discussions will revolve around ‘Real Cases of Supply Chain Due Diligence Responses by Companies.’

The event will introduce excellent response cases from domestic supply chain partner companies identified through the Ministry’s eco-friendly management diagnosis and consulting. There will also be presentations and comprehensive discussions on current issues and response cases by major export industries (steel and textiles).

The Ministry and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute plan to thoroughly review the supply chain due diligence response measures discussed at this event. They aim to actively incorporate these measures into future policies that the Ministry will pursue, ensuring that our export companies can enhance their competitiveness within the international supply chain.

Lee Chang-heum, Director-General of the Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “A swift response from domestic export industries before supply chain due diligence is important.” He added, “We will proactively establish preemptive support measures to ensure that companies do not face difficulties in responding to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) supply chain due diligence.”
