Sixth annual celebration of the America Recycles Day

In celebration of America Recycles Day, the U.S. President Bush made a proclamation to declare November 15th as the "America Recycles Day" and to encourage the citizens to renew the commitment to preserve the resources by recycling and developing innovative ways and special educational programs to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Also, a first electronic recycling collection event was held by joint efforts of the Federal Government and the DC Government, where the businesses, community organizations, NGOs and volunteers all participated to recycle the used, broken or outdated electronic products to be recycled.

Canadian list of species at risk

According to the COSEWIC(Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada), as of Nov. 29, 2002, there are now 415 species in various risk categories on the list, including 141 that are Endangered, 99 that are Threatened, and 142 species of Special concern. Also, 21 species are Extirpated (no longer found in Canada), and 12 are Extinct.

* Definition of terms and risk categories
Extinct : A species that no longer exists.
Extirpated : A species no longer existing in the wild in Canada, but occurring elsewhere.
Endangered : A species facing imminent extirpation or extinction.
Threatened : A species likely to become endangered if limiting factors are not reversed.
Special Concern : Those species that are particularly sensitive to human activities or natural events but are not endangered or threatened species.
