Climate Change Experts Gather in Seoul for the International Workshop

 

The Ministry of Environment, the Korea Environment Corporation, and the Environmental Law Association jointly host the ‘International Workshop for Promoting Carbon Market’ at the Seoul National University from May 28 to 29. In an attempt to discuss plans to promote carbon market and share information on greenhouse gas reduction, experts from East Asian nations including Japan, China, and Taiwan take part in the workshop.

 

On the first day, East Asian experts’ network will be built and a signing ceremony for MOU among each network will be held.

 

On the second day, several presentations will be given on the current status of carbon market in East Asian nations and the review of related regulations. Professor Wang Mingyuan of Tsinghua University in China will give a presentation on ‘China’s strategy to adapt to climate change and related law.’ Under the theme ‘Japan’s legal action against climate change,’ professor Kazu Kato of Nagoya University in Japan will give a presentation on measure for market mechanism. Also, professor Tegshjargaliin of National University of Mongolia will give a presentation on ‘Overview of Taiwan’s climate change policies and related law.’

 

The Ministry of Environment expects the international workshop will become a cornerstone of preparing joint measures among East Asian nations for promoting carbon markets. The Ministry plans to enhance international network for sharing information so as to actively respond to change in an international carbon market.
