2. Key Messages

▷ Vice Minister Lim Sang-jun: "While 97% of our domestic water industry relies on the domestic market, our overseas competitiveness is sufficiently high."

- "We will strengthen tailored support for water companies based on their growth stages to enable them to lead the international market with innovative technologies."

The water industry is fundamental infrastructure for preventing disasters such as floods and droughts in an era of deepening climate crisis.

It is foundation for supplying clean water for citizens and ensuring stable industrial water supply, which is directly linked to national safety and industrial competitiveness.

The global water market is expected to sustain an annual growth of 3% until 2028; however, the overseas expansion of our domestic companies remains somewhat insufficient.

Although the domestic water industry still heavily relies on the domestic market, with a dependency rate of 97%, its industrial competitiveness in overseas markets is high.

Traditional water industries such as dam and groundwater development, water abstraction and purification, and wastewater treatment projects are expanding. In addition, new water industries such as seawater desalination and the development of new water sources like hydrothermal and ultra-pure water are emerging.

The government will enhance tailored support, including technology development (R&D), demonstration testing, certification, and workforce training, based on the growth stages, to enable water companies to lead both domestic and international markets with innovative technologies.
