(Joint-Ref.) Progress in Preparations for P4G Seoul Summit by Hosting a Meeting of Heads of Diplomatic Missions

▷ The Ministers of Environment and Foreign Affairs held a meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions (ambassadors) regarding "2021 P4G Seoul Summit (30th to 31st of May)" on April 9th. 


The Ministers of Environment (ME, Minister Han Jeoung-ae) and Foreign Affairs (MOFA, Minister Chung Eui-yong) presided a virtual meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions in major countries regarding "2021 P4G Seoul Summit" in the afternoon of May 9th to review preparations and discuss a wide range of measures for a successful summit at the government building of MOFA (located in Jongno-Gu, Seoul).


※ Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) is a multi-lateral cooperation network in which public and private organizations across the world can work together to accelerate green growth and progress towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Its twelve-member states, including the Republic of Korea and Denmark, join forces to hold a summit biennially.

Minister Chung highlighted that the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit holds a particular significance as it is the first-ever multi-lateral environmental summit hosted by the Republic of Korea in the first year of taking the Paris Agreement and 2050 Carbon Neutrality into action, asking the first line of diplomacy to join its forces for a successful hosting of the Summit.


Minister Han said, "I looking forward to discussing with the heads of diplomatic missions in each country on various measures to successfully host the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit as they are well aware of the global discussion trend of climate change and the expectations from the international community on our country.


The heads of diplomatic missions who participated in the meeting shared the preparations for the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit and discussed how to manage the schedule of each state leader joining the Summit efficiently from various perspectives. They also agreed to reinforce diplomatic efforts in the field to ensure that the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit will attain meaningful achievements.


The 2021 P4G Seoul Summit will be held virtually in Seoul for two days from the 30th of May and it plans to touch upon various topics* including civil society, future generations, green finance, as well as focus on five key areas: water, energy, agriculture/food, cities, and a circular economy, along with the main session of the Summit. 

* Future generations, the practice of carbon neutrality, green technology, ocean, biodiversity, business forum, forest, Green New Deals, and green finance are included.


The P4G Summit aims to raise awareness of Korean citizens and the international community about climate change and lay a foundation for strengthening the practice of carbon neutrality worldwide. 


With the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit just 50 days away, the Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs will put meticulous effort into preparation while closely communicating with diplomatic missions to make the summit constructive.
