Ministry of Environment to Enhance Competitiveness for the Korean Electric Vehicle Charger Industry to Enter the Overseas Market

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) will hold a seminar to discuss increasing the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and measures to support Korean EV charger companies to enter the overseas market. The seminar will be held in the afternoon on July 11 at Koreana Hotel (Jung-gu, Seoul) and experts will be invited to share their opinions.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) prospect announced that the global number of EVs will eightfold from 30 million cars in 2022 to 240 million cars in 2030. Against this backdrop, the Ministry decided to host the seminar to increase EV charging stations in Korea and discuss support measures for Korean EV charger companies to actively enter the overseas market.

Supporting EV charger companies enter the overseas market is one of the measures included in the "Measures to Increase Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and Enhance Safety." This measure was presented at the 25th Ministerial Conference on Government Affairs conference held on June 29.

Industry experts who will be present at the event will share their outlook on the global EV and charger market, and introduce cases of Korean EV charger companies that have entered the overseas market. They will also discuss the directions to develop the EV charger industry, considerations when entering the overseas market, and the support policies of the government.

To enhance the export competitiveness of companies, the Ministry will offer professional consulting sessions to enter the overseas market as well as support when live-testing prototypes overseas. The Ministry will also send private-public joint market pioneering groups and host investment seminars with foreign buyers in an effort to provide customized support tailored to the companies' needs. Also, companies that have excellent technology but face difficulties in entering the overseas market and securing the funds will also be able to receive financial support in the form of the Eco-Friendly Equipment Investment Loan Program.

The Ministry plans to continue discussions with relevant industry members to implement the support measures derived from the seminar. These measures aim to support EV charger companies to enter the overseas market.

Park Yeon-jae, Director-General of the Air Quality Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Environment, stated, "By entering the overseas market, Korean EV charger companies will be able to create a new green market in developing countries. Not only will they be able to enter the foreign market, but they will also greatly contribute to the Korean economy."
