Minister of Environment Met with Green Industries as Her First Move since Assuming Office

▷ Minister Han Wha-jin emphasized the role of green industries as the new growth engine for driving the transition to a green economy 


Sejong, May 23 - On May 18, Han Wha-jin, the newly appointed Minister of Environment, paid a visit to the Environmental Research Complex (located in Seo-gu, Incheon) and had a meeting with green industries as her first official move. 


During the meeting, Minister Han told the attendees that she would like to exchange opinions on the role the Ministry of Environment should play. She emphasized, "Green industries play a critical role in leading transition to a green economy and securing the new growth engine." She added, "Green industries are also very important to achieve the goals of the Yoon's administration, which is "The Republic of Korea that leaps anew, a people's nation of co-prosperity." Representatives of the environmental venture enterprises and startups who attended the meeting voiced their concerns about attracting investments and securing excellent workforces. They also mentioned that they need to collaborate with large enterprises to enter the new market. The Minister said that she would find effective ways to support the green industries. 


Following the meeting, Minister Han took a brief tour of SuperBin and AETECH. Using AI and information technology, these companies are specialized in recognizing the type and quantity of waste and sorting them out. She also visited Won WonGwang S&T and SPR, which have recycling technologies for waste PV modules and plastics. During the visit, the Minister emphasized the importance of developing technologies. 


Minister Han said, "During the transition to a green economy, the green industries' roles are pivotal as science and technology could combine with the environment and bring synergy effect. The Ministry of Environment will continue to provide unwavering support for green industries so that the companies can grow as our new future engine."
