The Ministry of Environment to discover new companies to lead the future green industry

▷ The Ministry of Environment selected the 14 best green technology companies for 2022 


Sejong, December 9 - The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Wha-jin) and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI, President Choi Heung-jin) selected the 14 best green technology companies for 2022. The Ministry of Environment is fostering environmental companies with excellent business performance and technology as leading green technology companies through the excellent environmental business awards introduced in 2012.


In 2022, the Ministry of Environment selected fourteen businesses (three in the climate/air quality sector; five in the water/water quality sector; five in the resource circulation/waste sector; and one in another sector) as the final winner who came through a competition of 2.4 to 1. The three winners in the climate/air quality sector include Sangwon, a manufacturer of a high-efficiency axial thermal combustion oxidation system; Clean Air Tech, a company that increased filtration efficiency by coating dust collectors with nanoparticles; and Testonic, a manufacturer of suction mats applied with a principle similar to vacuum cleaners to draw in fine particles and impurities. 


Companies in the water/water quality sector include Handok ENG, developer of a biological wastewater treatment system; Haesung Engineering, a company that treats rainwater and reuses it by utilizing microbubbles and ozone; UnU, manufacturer of a smart sensor that can monitor water quality and collect big data in real time; Coway EnTech, a company that offers an integrated solution for water treatment, including sewage/wastewater reuse and industrial wastewater treatment systems; and Jain Technology, manufacturer of an ultrasonic flowmeter that measures fluid velocity with ultrasonic waves.


Businesses awarded in the resource circulation/waste sector were: Wintec Glovis, a manufacturer of activated carbon regeneration facility using superheated steam; SungEel HiTech, a recycling specialist of lithium-ion batteries for recovering precious metals; Recycling Management, a manufacturer of premium recycled raw materials from waste plastic bottles; Korea Comprehensive Plant, a company that possesses the technology for using dry sediments as renewable fuels; and HnY Tires, which owns proprietary technology for manufacturing recycled tires. The awardee in the "other" category is Speefox, manufacturer of heat transfer plates for floors to reduce heating energy.


The Ministry of Environment and KEITI will grant various benefits to those selected companies, including assisting in operating promotional booths during the exhibitions at home and abroad, making PR videos, and creating new sales channels through meetings with foreign buyers. They will also get extra credit when participating in environmental technology development projects, applying for environmental policy funds, occupying the environmental industry research complex, and applying for international market projects.


According to research conducted by the environment ministry on 61 selected as the best green technology companies in the past five years (2017-2021), the companies expected their sales and employment rates to increase by 27% and 15%, respectively, in 2022, compared to the year before they were selected. Coway EnTech, for instance, was selected as the best green technology company for the first time in 2017 and again in 2022. The company reported sales of KRW 45.7 billion in 2016, but it expects a 79% increase or an equivalent of KRW 82 billion in 2022. Green Tech I&C, which earned the title of the best green technology company in 2021, also foresees an 83% increase in its sales this year from KRW 14.7 billion to KRW 27 billion.


Jang Gi-bok, Director-General of the Green Transition Policy Bureau, said, "We plan to develop the green industry systematically to achieve carbon neutrality and transition to a green economy. We will particularly support the best green technology companies in growing as leaders of the future green industry."
