KRW 22.7 Trillion in Green Industry Contracts and Exports Achieved

▷ Domestic companies’ green industry technology plays leading role in global green industry market

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) announced that as a result of the government and companies working together to strive for green industry contracts and exports, a contract and export performance of KRW 22.7 trillion was achieved this year.

Following last year’s contract and export performance of KRW 20.49 trillion through the advancement of green technology and diversification of overseas markets, domestic companies have achieved a green industry contract and export performance of KRW 22.7 trillion this year. Major contract and investment project results include KRW 16.49 trillion* from 19 projects, and green product exports amounted to KRW 6.1693 trillion from 602 companies.

* △ Water and Sewage Design Project in Saudi Arabia (Kunhwa), △ Green Hydrogen Production Project in Oman (Samsung C&T), △ Water and Sewage Facility Construction Project in Brazil (GS Inima), etc.

This achievement is the result of cooperation between the Ministry and the industrial sector working as “One Team.” For close communication and cooperation, the Ministry has been holding regular one-on-one strategic meetings with participating institutions (73 in total) to identify challenges specific to each project and establish tailored support measures, which are then provided to foreign governments and contracting entities, in order to expand contracts and exports in the green industry through comprehensive efforts.

In addition, the Ministry has dispatched a green industry contract support team 26 times to 16 countries to assist companies’ contract and export support activities, collaborating with the industrial sector to promote the entire process of project discovery, negotiation, contracting, and post-management for green overseas projects.

Accordingly, the Ministry will hold a performance report meeting on December 17 in the afternoon at the Imperial Palace (located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul) with companies from the green industry consultative body (73 institutions). Participants from the government and industrial sector at this event will share their achievements and discuss next year’s support directions, including the continued dispatch of contract support teams, regular strategic meetings, expanded financial support, and investment in support funds for overseas exports of green infrastructure.

On this day, the participating companies in the consultative body will present cases of overseas projects currently being undertaken and will propose recommendations such as government support for securing project viability, expansion of the budget for official development assistance (ODA) projects, support for complex permit and approval negotiations, and continued government interest after project completion.

The government plans to continuously support companies so they can focus on overseas projects through budget support, expanded investment, and intergovernmental negotiations.

Ahn Se-chang, Deputy Minister of Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Policy Office, stated, “The technological capabilities of domestic companies in the green industry are recognized globally and are already playing a leading role in the global green industry market.” He also expressed, “We will spare no effort in providing policy, financial, and diplomatic support to ensure that continuous contracts and exports in the global green market are achieved.”
