▷ Ministry of Environment Introduces SME Support Policies and Listens to Industry Challenges
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) will hold a meeting with indoor air quality industry stakeholders on the afternoon of April 16 at the main auditorium of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (located in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul).
This meeting was organized to share the difficulties and challenges faced by companies in the field and to explore government-level support measures in response.
At the meeting, representatives from related associations such as the Korea Air Cleaning Association, the Korea Indoor Environment Association, the Korea Ozone UV Association, and the Korea Association of Ventilation Industry Companies, as well as officials from companies that manufacture and sell indoor air quality-related products such as air purifiers and air sterilizers, will be in attendance.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and major academic journals, indoor air pollution is known to cause stroke, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory illnesses. In Korea, interest in indoor air quality is growing, and related technologies and markets are rapidly expanding.
In line with this trend, the Ministry will use this meeting to introduce support measures for the growth of related industries and the strengthening of corporate competitiveness.
The meeting will cover various support programs, including: 1) new technology certification for the dissemination of excellent environmental technologies and industry development, 2) commercialization support such as performance and cost-effectiveness verification, 3) feasibility studies for new overseas environmental projects, 4) local demonstration of related technologies abroad, and 5) overseas buyer invitation consultations, to promote overseas expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises. The government also plans to gather opinions from the industry.
In particular, the meeting will discuss ways to revitalize the related industry and promote industry cooperation, taking the announcement of the ‘5th Basic Plan for Indoor Air Quality Management (2025-2029)’ on November 25, 2024, as a starting point. The plan focuses on expanding support for businesses to enhance the competitiveness of the indoor air quality industry, strengthening domestic and international cooperation, and establishing indoor air quality management policies suitable for public living spaces such as facilities used by vulnerable groups and underground stations.
Oh Il-young, Director General of Air Quality Policy Bureau, stated, “The domestic indoor air quality industry market is valued at approximately KRW 5 trillion and continues to show steady growth, while overseas demand for high-performance air purifiers is also increasing.” He added, “We will continue to actively foster the related industry through close communication and cooperation with the industry and seek various support measures going forward.”
