▷ The International Environmental Expert Training Program 2017 calls for participant until June 1.

▷ The program will give trainees an internship opportunity to work in international environmental organizations after completing the training course.

The Ministry of Environment (Minister Cho KyeungKyu) will call for participants for the “9th International Environmental Expert Training Program 2017” which provides the youth with an internship opportunity to work for international organizations such as the United Nations from May 15 to June 1.

Korean nationals who are seniors in college, graduate students or those who graduated from university or graduate school (as of June 1, 2017) within a year are qualified to apply for the program. After document screening and English speaking interview, 55 trainees will be selected.

The International Environmental Expert Training Program (IEETP) was launched in 2009 with an aim to respond to global demands for environmental cooperation and nurture Korea’s talents to work for international organizations.

As of the end of last year, 414 trainees completed the IEETP program and 191 trainees had an opportunity to work for international environmental organizations as interns. The trainees will receive 100 hours long training for four weeks from July 3 for free of charge.

The training program consists of lectures on domestic and foreign environmental policies on climate change, biodiversity and environmental trade as well as information on internship at international organizations.

And, a 6-month internship opportunity to work in international environmental organizations at home and abroad including UNEP, UNESACAP and GGGI will be given to trainees who completed the IEETP.

The interns to work abroad will be provided with round-trip air fare and staying expenses up to KRW 1.2 million per month, and those who will work in Korea will be provided with KRW 400,000 of monthly staying expenses.

Considering that most of international organizations are hiring unpaid interns, the IEETP will serve as a good opportunity for those who could not apply for internship due to financial burden.
