The Ministry of Environment (Minister Cho Myung-rae) will adjust the supply volume between different vehicle models and reform the subsidy payment system to expand the supply of electric vehicles.

The Ministry and related industries plan for a mid-term check on the status of the electric vehicle supply project in response to the consumption stagnation and low oil prices caused by COVID-19, while promoting system improvement to expand the vehicle supply.

The Ministry plans to hold a meeting with 11 manufacturers and sellers** for the "low emission vehicle supply target system*" at the office of Korea Automobile Environmental Association, Seocho-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of August 10th and a meeting with the city and provinces' electric vehicle supply project managers at the Seoul Station KTX conference room on August 20th.

Through meetings with related industries as well as city and provincial meetings, companies, cities and provinces will conduct a mid-term review of their electric vehicle supply performance in the first half of the year. Also, they will discuss plans for the second half of the year and recommendations to expand the supply of electric vehicles.

In particular, the meetings plan to prepare an adjustment for the electric vehicle supply budget proposal of this year in August, by converting the supply budget for passenger vehicles and micro trucks to trucks and buses based on focusing on the supply status and market demand for each electric vehicle model.

On the other hand, the Ministry will start working on preparing the 2021 electric vehicle supply project guideline* earlier than previous year in order to compensate for some of the inadequacies raised during the process of promoting the electric vehicle supply project of this year and maximize the project promotion effects.

In this regard, starting with the meeting of four automobile related associations* held on August 7th, the recent international trend will be reviewed and the domestic market conditions as well as its supply status will be comprehensively analyzed through discussions with local governments, related experts and related associations until October. As a result. a reform plan for electric vehicle subsidy calculation plan will be established.

In this process, new subsidy amount for each model will be recalculated and measures to exclude subsidies for expensive electric vehicles will also be reviewed by completely improving the subsidy calculation criteria in order to maximize climate crisis reponses and fine dust reduction, which are the policy goals of the Green New Deal.
