With the "Korea International Water Week 2017 (KIWW 2017)" and the "1st Asia International Water Week (AIWW)" 60 days ahead, an event to make pledge to work for success of both events will be jointly held by five organizations including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on July 21 at Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO), Gyeongju.
Co-organizers of the event are the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the Ministry of Environment (ME), Daegu Metropolitan Government, Gyeongsangbuk-do and K-Water.
KIWW was launched last year in order to advance the achievements of the 7th World Water Forum in 2015. This year's event will take place on September 20-23 in Gyeongju.
AIWW, an international network initiated by Korea, is aimed at addressing water-related issues in Asia. AIWW 2017 will be held side to side with the KIWW.
The pledge event, which will be held under the theme of "Water for All, Water of Hope," will draw about 200 participants including KIWW organizers, central and local governments, water-related academia and industries, civic groups, media and citizens.
In Session 1, the launching ceremony of supporters who will actively promote KIWW and AIWW and cultural performance will be held.
In Session 2, a discussion under the theme of "Policy Direction for Sustainable Water Resources Management" will be held to share thoughts on the role of KIWW and future water management policies for pioneering sustainable water management.
An official from MOLIT commented that "we will do our utmost to draw public attention about the upcoming KIWW and offer a variety of programs for the success of event for the next two months."
