Minister of Environment Cho Myung-rae held the round-table meeting with heads of state-run research institutes run by National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (Chairperson Seong Kyoung-Ryung) in El-Tower in Seocho, Seoul on May 13th to discuss post-corona strategy for green transition.

Present in the meeting were Minster of Environment Cho Myung-rae, Chairperson Seong Kyoung-Ryung, Korea Environment Institute President Yoon Je-yong, Korea Maritime Institute President Jang Young-tae, The Korea Transport Institute President Oh Jae-hak, Korea Energy Economics Institute President Cho Yong-sung, Korea Rural Economic Institute President Ki Hong-sang, Korea Institute of Public Finance President Kim Yu-chan, and Science and Technology Policy Institute President Cho Hwang-hee.

Attendees in the   meeting shared research results and discussed policies regarding infrastructure, transportation, economy, industry, energy, and agriculture.

Ministry of Environment will create green transition strategy to ensure smooth transition to a society with resilience to global external impact such as missive  layoffs and climate change amid the low-growth due to COVID-19.

With the round-table meeting as the starting foundation, Ministry of Environment will run policy study forum consisting of state-run research institutes, academia, industry, and civil organizations.

Green transition strategy for society and economy is the new national strategy to identify new growth engine and cope with environmental risks after COVID-19.

Highlights of the strategy are general environmental policies, expansion of green infrastructure such as buildings, transportation, and logistics, clean energy supply with citizens' participation, green industry for future food, green  finance, and sustainable agriculture and fisheries industry.

Minister of Environment Cho Myung-rae said "We will see significant changes in how people travel and trade after corona virus, so we need to present new growth strategy for society and economy."

"We will work with top experts from academia, civil society, and industry to make sure that green transition strategy does not end up as another environmental initiative but translates into new growth strategy," Minister Cho added.
