Ministry of Environment Increases 478.1 Billion Won in the 3rd Supplementary Budget for 2020

▷ The Ministry of Environment increased budgets for the Green New Deal (461.7 billion won) and support for job creation and SMEs (108.4 billion won)

▷ Considering the change of conditions for implementation, 92 billion won was cut from the established budget

▷ The ministry will immediately implement the increased budget and finish the implementation by the end of 2020


(Overview) The 3rd supplementary budget of the Ministry of Environment worth 8 trillion 804.1 billion won was passed at the National Assembly (July 3rd), a 5.7% (478.1 billion won) increase than the second supplementary budget (8 trillion 326 billion won).


(Green New Deal) Increased 461.7 billion won, including Smart Water Supply and Sewerage Project (19.6 billion won), Electric Truck, Motorcycle, and Excavator Dissemination project (111.5 billion won), Future Environmental Industry Nourishment Fund (200 billion won), and production of renewable energy for basic environmental treatment facilities (10 billion won)


(Direct job creation) Increased 62.4 billion won, including prevention of African Swine Fever and relative damage (8.1 billion won), selective collection and quality improvement of reusable waste (42.2 billion won)


(Support for SMEs, Digital New Deal, etc.) Increased 46 billion won, including digitalization of environmental pollution surveillance systems (17.1 billion won), support for the implementation of the Act on Registration, Evaluation, etc. of Chemicals and the Act on Safe Control of Common Household Chemicals and Biocidal Products (14.8 billion won)


(Restructuring) Decreased 92 billion won from the projects expected poor performances


(Implementation plan) The ministry will implement 50% (285 billion won) within two months, 75% (429.5 billion won) within three months, and 100% by the end of 2020.


The implementation will be thoroughly managed by establishing an inspection group for budget implementation (head, Deputy Minister of the Planning and Coordination Office) and conducting on-site inspections.
