▷ Plastic policy and industry seminar to be held at International Convention Center Jeju on June 4
The Ministry of Environment (Minister Kim Wansup) announced that it will hold a ‘Plastic Policy and Industry Seminar’ on June 4 at the International Convention Center Jeju (located in Seogwipo, Jeju) in commemoration of World Environment Day (June 5).
This event aims to share government policies for plastic reduction and the realization of a circular economy, current domestic and international cooperation, innovative technologies, and industry cases. Experts from various fields, including policymakers, specialists, and industry representatives, will present on a wide range of topics, from circular economy policy directions to the latest technology applications.
In the first session, the Ministry of Environment will explain domestic plastic reduction policies and future directions under the theme of “Korea's Circular Economy Policy Direction.” Patrick Schroder, Senior Research Fellow at Chatham House, is scheduled to present “International Trends.” Gi Gyrong-bae, Director at the Korea Environment Corporation, will share cases of supporting overseas policies centered on the Korean-style Extended Producer Responsibility system (K-EPR), and Jeong Seon-tak, Director of Eco Creation, will present cases of international cooperation in waste plastic pyrolysis technology.
In the second session, leading plastic recycling technologies and cases from the domestic industry will be introduced.
Park Tae-hyeong, CEO of Aetech, will present AI-based robotic sorting technology, and Kim Yeong-jae, Director at DY Polymer, will share cases of material recycling of waste plastics. This will be followed by Kim Yong, Team leadder at LG Chem, introducing cases of recycled naphtha production and utilization, and Ra Ho-won, Director at the Korea Institute of Energy Research, presenting on the development of waste plastic gasification technology.
This event is open to everyone and can be attended through on-site registration without any prior registration required.
Seo Young-tae, Director General for Green Transition Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “Through this event, we aim to share government policies such as plastic reduction, as well as achievements in private-sector technology and industry, both domestically and internationally, to build global consensus and strengthen the foundation for cooperation in the transition to a circular economy.”
