The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sunghwan), jointly with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister Han Seongsook), announced that it will hold the launch ceremony of the “Climate Tech Innovation Alliance” on the afternoon of March 4 at Mapo D·Camp (located in Mapo-gu, Seoul), a standing communication channel among the government, public institutions, and companies to foster climate tech startups. 

At the launch ceremony, major climate tech innovative companies, along with relevant public institutions and representatives from the investment industry, will participate to discuss policy directions for fostering the climate tech industry. 

In particular, this event will be conducted in the format of a talk concert, allowing participants to freely share their vision for the future of the climate tech industry, exchange ideas, and explore potential solutions.

In addition, the policy ideas discussed on this day will be further developed through regular meetings by each of the five tech sectors: Clean, Carbon, Eco, Food, and Geo. 

△ Clean Tech: Production and decentralization of renewable and alternative energy  

△ Carbon Tech: Carbon capture and storage, and carbon reduction technologies

△ Eco Tech: Resource circulation, and eco-friendly materials and products   

△ Food Tech: Carbon reduction in food production and consumption

△ Geo Tech: Carbon observation and monitoring, and climate adaptation

In particular, the public and private sectors will jointly develop concrete solutions to key challenges raised in the field, including expanding financial support such as the creation of dedicated climate tech funds; establishing demonstration complexes (clusters) for major climate tech sectors to provide spaces for startup and growth; and proactively improving institutional frameworks and pursuing regulatory innovation to foster innovation.

Going forward, the MCEE will formulate comprehensive measures to foster the climate tech industry by reflecting the proposals on financial investment, technical support, and institutional improvement discussed at this event, and will continue to communicate with the Climate Tech Innovation Alliance throughout the implementation process.

Minister Kim Sunghwan of the MCEE emphasized that “climate tech is the technology that will lead the transition to a carbon-neutral green civilization.” He also stated, “We will lay the groundwork so that innovative ideas from climate tech companies can be swiftly demonstrated and disseminated in the field, and we will strengthen administrative and financial support to ensure the stable growth of related businesses, thereby supporting climate tech to become a key driving force of the green transition.”

Minister Han Seongsook of the MSS stated, “Climate tech startups are key drivers that simultaneously advance carbon neutrality and future industrial competitiveness.” She added, “In close cooperation with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, we will swiftly address on-the-ground challenges and enhance a full-cycle support system, from early-stage startup to overseas expansion, so that climate tech can take root as a new growth engine for the Republic of Korea.”
