The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sunghwan) and the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association will hold the 3rd Korea Wind Day commemorative ceremony on Friday, February 27, at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.

“Korea Wind Day” was first designated in 2024 to commemorate February 27, 1975, when the nation’s first wind turbine was installed at Jedong Ranch in Jocheon-eup, Jeju Island.

Each year, stakeholders in the wind power industry gather to commemorate Korea Wind Day, share achievements and visions for wind power development, and recognize individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the wind energy sector.

This year’s event will be attended by approximately 250 participants, including representatives from the government, industry, public power companies, and academia. 

At this commemorative ceremony, awards will be presented to individuals who have contributed to the development of the domestic wind power industry, along with the first-ever Windy Photo Contest awards ceremony held this year under the theme “A Lifetime Shot with Wind Power.”

In addition, there will be a special lecture by science communicator Gwedo (Orbit)　under the theme “Can Humanity Overcome the Climate Crisis?”, as well as an introduction to the Offshore Wind Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition to be held in Yeosu this June. A presentation will also be given on the financing case of the Sinan Ui Offshore Wind Power Project, which was selected as the first project under the National Growth Fund.

* Offshore Wind Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Yeosu Expo on June 16-17, serving as a wind power networking platform featuring various programs such as business consultations, technology exchange, investment attraction, and policy proposals.

Shim Jin-su, Director General for Renewable Energy Policy Bureau at the MCEE, stated, “Wind power is a key driving force behind our renewable energy expansion policy, and the government will take the lead in advancing decarbonization policies with greater speed.” He added, “We also plan to establish a full life-cycle management strategy for wind power to build a safe and trusted wind industry ecosystem, and we ask for special attention to wind turbine safety management in the field.
