More than 90% of washing machines in Korean households have 10kg of load capacity. Reportedly, the average laundry load produced by a regular four-member family is about 3 kg. Thus, the appropriate load capacity of washing machines is about 6 kg. Use full loads of laundry whenever possible and you will save water and your water bill.
If using a laundry with 6~8kg of load capacity when doing laundry produced by a four-member family, about 20~30% of water can be saved compared with the water use of a 10kg washing machine. Since water volume can vary by about 50 liters between maximum and minimum water levels of a 10 kg laundry, you can save up to 150 liters of water if selecting a appropriate water level for the size of your laundry.
Don't provide extra rinsing cycle than the level set by washing machines. Of detergent components, surfactant can cause skin irritation, but it can be easily removed by just one time of washing. Moreover, people usually provide additional rinsing when the rinsed water is found to be still whitish. However, this is because of the presence of the detergent component called zeolite which is used to enhance washing capacity. The zeolite does not dissolve in water and permeates in the form of minuscule particles. Thus, the presence of small amount of zeolite can make water cloudy, but it is not harmful to the skin. In addition, the last few batches of rinse water can be reused for toilet flushing, and floor cleaning.
