Recall Harley-Davidson motorcycles for exceeding permitted noise level...: 2013.05.14; The Ministry of Environment (MOE) announced on the 13th that the importer of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Kiheung Motors Ltd., will recall some models after finding out a defect in noise-reducing function of those motorcycles. A total of 16 models including Harley-Davidson FLHTRUSE and FLHTCUSE7 that were imported and sold from April 4, 2011 to March 15, 2012 will be subject to defect correction. According to non-periodic inspection on noise and vibration control conducted by MOE under the “Noise and Vibration Control Act,” these models exceeded the permitted noise level as Twist Grip Sensor (TGS) which reduces noise at sudden acceleration did not operate normally. TGS is to reduce noise by dropping peak power and torque at sudden acceleration. The inspection found out that the noise level of these models was 81.9dB, exceeding the permitted noise level of 80dB. To meet the permitted noise level, Kiheung Motors Ltd. will apply Engine/Electronic Control Module (ECM) with improved modulation to the models. Also, the company should take measures to improve any defective functions before distribution. The owners of the models above can have their motorcycles equipped with ECM for free at the service center of Kiheung Motors Ltd. from May 8.
