Payment suspension of water usage charge to be resolved: 2013.06.07; Payment suspension of water usage charge to be resolved The Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Seoul Metropolitan City agreed to lift the payment suspension of water usage charge at a breakfast meeting between Minister Yoon Seong-kyu of Environment and Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon on June 6. The suspension will be lifted after the Han River Water System Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”) will convene on June 19. MOE and Seoul agreed to expand participation of local governments in operation of the Committee and improve the water usage charge system in a more fair and transparent way. MOE and five local governments in upstream and downstream of Han River (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do) will have in-depth consultation and come up with specific plans for improvement. Seoul metropolitan government said that the agreement between MOE and Seoul is a exemplary case that the central and local government can untangle a snag through communication and compromise.
